New Forest Spring Clean 20 March - 13 April 2020

The New Forest Spring Clean is part of the Great British Spring Clean, a national campaign led by Keep Britain Tidy.

New Forest District Council are supporting the New Forest Spring Clean, which aims to bring people together to collect and remove litter pollution, including single-use plastics, which degrades our local communities, the beauty of our environment, and threatens to harm wildlife. You can get involved whether it's helping to clean up your local neighbourhood, school, park or beach- we can support you with organising a spring clean litter pick in your community.

Unfortunately we can only support organised spring clean litter picks. We cannot provide litter grabbers or other equipment on long-term loan, nor can we support individuals who wish to litter pick on an ad-hoc basis

To organise a spring clean litter pick:

There are a few things to consider before organising a spring clean litter pick in your area. Download and read our Organisers Guidance at the bottom of the page for general information, what support you can request from us, plus tips on how to get people involved.

SAFETY FIRST: Please be aware that litter pick organisers and volunteers are not working or acting on behalf of the council and are not covered by the Council's Public Liability insurance.

Any support from NFDC will only be given on the strict condition that any litter picking activity takes place within the parameters of the Health and Safety Guidance, and that the guidance is adhered to by all those taking part throughout the duration of the spring clean litter pick.

It is the spring clean litter pick organisers responsibility to visit their chosen site and carry out a full risk assessment, and for briefing all volunteers on the Health and Safety Guidance before they start any litter picking activities. Download and read the Health and Safety Guidance at the bottom of the page.

To request support for a spring clean litter pick:

Once you have read and understood the Organisers Guidance, and the Health and Safety Guidance, if you wish to book a litter pick and request support, please use the following link to the registration e-form

Our resources are limited and in high demand during the Spring Clean, and support is given on a first come first served basis. You must provide us with a minimum of two weeks notice of your spring clean litter pick, as we cannot guarantee any support without sufficient notice. Any support is given entirely at the the discretion of the Streetscene supervisor.

NOTE: If you would like to organise a litter pick to take place on any date before 20th March or after 13th April please go to for more information.

To join a 'public' litter pick:

If you are not part of a group, or do not wish to organise a litter pick yourself, but would still like to take part in the Spring Clean, there may be an open 'public' litter pick taking place which you could join. Please go to to find litter picks organised by our spring clean partners in the New Forest to see if there is one taking place near you.

Alternatively you can check to find a litter pick in your area.

There's no need to book or register with us to attend these open 'public' litter picks - just turn up!
