First Forest Futures

Release date: 13 July 2010

StudentsChewton Glen, ExxonMobil, and Hampshire Constabulary were just a few of the local exhibitors at the first ever Forest Futures event.

Over 100 young people from across the New Forest attended the interactive skills event on Wednesday 7 July, which aims to showcase the New Forest's career opportunities.

The event, held at Appletree Court, Lyndhurst, was organised by Solent Education Business Partnership on behalf of funders New Forest District Council and Aimhigher Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Councillor Maureen Holding, New Forest District Council's portfolio holder for employment, said: "This is a fabulous event which helps to bring young people and employers together. Even in a time of economic difficulty, we have a wide range of industries and career opportunities in the New Forest, from major employers to cottage and craft industries, and it is important that we help young people to recognise this and to support our local businesses."

Tony Acland, Director of the Aimhigher Hampshire & Isle of Wight partnership added:

"We hope this event will help young people from all backgrounds to consider the broad range of opportunities available, and how they can now start taking steps towards the career of their choice."
