Top mark for gym gang

Release date: 2 March 2010

The Gang Warily Gymnastics ClubYoung gymnasts from Fawley have been awarded top marks for their club.

The Gang Warily Gymnastics Club is celebrating the success after being the first in the district to receive the English Gymnastics' GymMark accreditation.

The prestigious award recognises that the club offers quality sports provision with qualified instructors in a safe enjoyable environment.

Hayley Buckman, Hampshire's gymnastics development officer presented the club with its GymMark plaque this week, (March 1) at Gang Warily Leisure Centre.

Nearly 200 young people take part in the weekly gym club sessions, held at Gang Warily Leisure Centre. The club has a school club link agreement encouraging young people to participate in physical activity.

Head coach at GWGC, Louise Francis works closely with NFDC's sports development officer Jamie Burton and England gymnasts and has been the driving force behind the accreditation.

The club is open to boys and girls and is planning to expand and offer trampolining, including to those with a disability.

NFDC portfolio holder for Leisure, Culture and Youth Matters, Cllr Di Brooks, said: "Congratulations to all involved with the running of the Gang Warily Gymnastics Club. Their success in achieving the GymMark status is down to the enthusiasm of the staff, members and those who support the club. It is so important that young people have opportunities to take part in activities such as gymnastics, to allow them to maintain a healthy lifestyle."
