Keyhaven River - Recycling and Rubbish

All users of Keyhaven are encouraged to take personal responsibility for minimising their impact on this very special environment.

As a harbour, Keyhaven is regulated in respect of waste reception and disposal.  Adhere to the Port Waste Management Plan and if in any doubt contact the River Warden.

As part of the council's requirement to the environment protection programme, the council meets the MCA Port Waste Management Status and is enrolled as a member of the plan.

Keyhaven's basic concern is to provide:

  • Litter reception bins
  • Management of recycling centres
  • Plans for the disposal of oils, batteries and filters etc
  • Verbal and written guides for the disposal of waste when using the spit facilities
  • Ongoing education to users of Keyhaven on how to protect this special areas by putting rubbish in the correct bin or taking it home

More general information on waste management in ports can be found on the Maritime and Coastguard Agency website and International Maritime Organisation
