Bulky household waste collection

If you have large item that cannot be donated or reused elsewhere, we offer a chargeable bulky household waste collection service.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19): All collections of bulky household waste have been suspended until further notice.

We are working hard to deliver essential services and are prioritising collection of rubbish and recycling sacks at this time. 

Please do not call to book a collection of bulky household waste until further notice.

Booking a collection

Step 1 - Complete the 'Donate it or dump it' form. The bulky waste collection service is for items that cannot be donated or reused. This form will help you establish the best collection service or disposal method for your item. Click here to open the form

Information about the household bulky waste collection service

How much does it cost?

The collection of one item will cost £27.00. Each additional item (up to a maximum of eight items) will cost £6.50.

For example, the collection of a single bed base with a single mattress will cost £33.50

Residents in receipt of certain benefits can apply for one free collection of up to 3 items, in any one financial year (April - March). Please call customer services on 023 8028 5000 for more information.

What can we collect?

We can collect the following household items as part of this service:

Bed bases
Wardrobes (depending on size)
Washing Machines
Fridges and freezers (excluding American-style double fridge freezers)
Internal doors

*Carpet should not be more than 6ft  length.
Up to two rolls per room can count as one item
If it is longer than this, please cut it into smaller pieces and roll it together.
Underlay is counted as a separate item

Garage doors
External doors
Electric beds
Armchairs with an electric motor
Double fridge freezers (American style)
Loft Insulation

These items can be taken to the household waste recycling centre

Collection days

You will be informed of your collection day at the time of booking.

Current collection areas are :

MondayNew Milton and Lymington area
TuesdayRingwood and Fordingbridge area
WednesdayHythe, Fawley and Blackfield area
ThursdayTotton and Lyndhurst area

We will always book the first available collection, but this is usually around 1-2 weeks in advance. Spaces for sofas on lorries are always limited so waiting times for these could be longer.

Adding items to an existing booking

Once a booking is made you can request to add items. If space is available on the same vehicle this will be charged at £6.50 per item. If space is not available on the same vehicle the items will be processed as a new booking.


Refunds will only be considered if the cancellation is made within 48 hours of the original booking. Cancellations made after 48 hours will not be refunded. All requests for a refund need to be made in writing to

General points to follow:

  • Items must be located at the front of the property and easily accessible (e.g. in front garden, driveway)
  • Soft furnishings (such as sofas, mattresses etc) should be covered, as if they become waterlogged or wet the crews will be unable to remove them
  • The collection team are not permitted to enter your home or garage areas to pick up items
  • Please ensure your items do not contain other rubbish
  • If there are two identical items left on site, but only one was booked, neither will be taken


Step 3 - To book a bulky waste collection, call customer services on 023 8028 5000. Payment must be made at the time of booking and can be done by credit/debit card. For cash payments you must make your booking at one of our local information offices.
