Health and Leisure centres give generously to food bank

Two hundred and twenty seven bags of groceries have been donated by staff and customers at our Totton and Applemore Health and Leisure centres as part of an annual collection for a local Basics Bank in Totton.

Our Business and Fitness Manager, Toby White said: "When we arrived at the food bank it was evident to see that this donation was really appreciated by the volunteers.

"It gives me a huge sense of pride seeing our customers giving back to the community. Thank you to everyone who donated."

Run by the local charity Youth and Family Matters based at Testwood Baptist Church in Totton, the donated food and household items will help support local families over the festive period and into 2020.

This is the sixth year our leisure centres have been involved in gathering food donations for the charity. The collection is organised each year by Michelle Burden, a group exercise instructor at our health and leisure centres.

Cllr Mark Steele, portfolio holder for leisure and wellbeing commented: "It is indeed moving when people act with kindness and generosity towards those in need.

"It is especially important to recognise Michelle who year after year organises these important donations for the local community."
