'Community Matters' Corporate Plan

We will have a new plan to shape how we work over the next four years with our 'Community Matters' Corporate Plan and the draft document is available for comment until 31 January.

Cllr Barry Rickman, Leader, said, "Community Matters focuses on the challenges we face and it is these that have shaped the commitments and priorities within the plan. The plan focuses on tackling the accelerating impact of climate change, new approaches to providing more homes for local people, maintaining the unique and special qualities of the environment, improving health and wellbeing, and economic prosperity.

"This is an important document as it will shape our decision making, how we spend the budget, and ultimately what work our officers do on the ground."

Bob Jackson, our Chief Executive, said, "Responses to this consultation will help us to prioritise our activities over the next four years. I would encourage all in our community who receive our services, whether it is your weekly refuse collection, the use of our car parks, or assistance with your housing needs, to read the document and let us know if we are doing the right things for you."

The document includes priorities for 2020 to 2024 together with eight areas, or 'commitments':

  • Delivering a prosperous New Forest and putting our community first (Leader and corporate affairs)
  • Encouraging development that meets local needs and enhances the special qualities of the environment (Planning and infrastructure)
  • Creating balanced communities and housing options that are affordable and sustainable (Housing services)
  • Keeping our communities safe and listening to their needs (Community affairs)
  • Enabling service provision and ensuring value for money for the council tax payer (Finance, investment, and corporate services)
  • Improving the health and wellbeing of our community (Leisure and wellbeing)
  • Working to tackle climate change and enhancing our special environment (Environment and regulatory services)
  • Helping local businesses to grow and prosper (Economic development)
