New Milton communities to have more say on planning their local area

Residents of New Milton are invited to have their say on a draft Neighbourhood Plan which enables local communities to have more influence on development in their area.

Introduced by the Localism Act 2011, Neighbourhood Plans set out local planning policies for the area that will ultimately be used in determining planning applications.

New Milton Town Council started work on its Neighbourhood Plan in 2015 and there have already been several rounds of public consultation to help shape the final draft Plan.

The next step is a six-week consultation on the final draft Neighbourhood Plan.

As the parish includes land in both the New Forest National Park and New Forest District Council areas, the two planning authorities have jointly published the draft Neighbourhood Plan for people to give their feedback. A Basic Conditions Statement and a Consultation Statement have also been published in support of the draft Plan.

Comments on these documents are invited by 10am on Monday 21 October 2019 and they should be submitted to

Paper copies of the draft plan and supporting documents can be viewed at:

• New Milton Town Council Office, The Town Hall, 2 Ashley Road, New Milton. Hampshire. BH25 6AS

• New Forest District Council Office, Appletree Court, Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst.

• New Forest NPA Office, Lymington Town Hall, Avenue Road, Lymington.

All of the comments received will be considered by an independent Examiner appointed by the planning authorities. If the Plan is supported by the Examiner, the final stage would be to hold a local referendum where the local community in New Milton will be asked whether they support the Neighbourhood Plan.
