New accessible trails open in New Milton

Local walkers and dog owners celebrated the opening of a new easy-access trail at Ballard Lake at the weekend (9 March 2019), after improvements we made to the well-used public right of way.

The routes, linking Stem Lane to Barrs Avenue, have been enhanced to improve accessibility, with new surfacing, new route signage, and accessible barriers.

The £80,000 improvement scheme is part of our Greenway project, funded by contributions paid by developers as part of any new residential development, to improve recreational walking routes across the district.

Cllr Edward Heron, NFDC's portfolio holder for Planning and Infrastructure, and Executive Member for Countryside and Rural Affairs at Hampshire County Council, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony, "I hope people and their pets will greatly enjoy using these trails, which are designed to help encourage residents, particularly dog walkers, to use these walking routes, and so reduce the number of visits that might otherwise be made to the most sensitive areas of the New Forest National Park."
