Public sector leaders "mighty impressed" with New Forest District Council

New Forest District Council (NFDC) has received praise from the Local Government Association (LGA) on the significant progress made in the past 15 months.

We were recently reviewed for a second time under a programme of peer challenge offered by the Local Government Association by senior leaders in local government.

Dorcas Bunton, herself a former chief executive of a large rural council, led the LGA peer challenge team, and said "We are mighty impressed with progress made, keep on doing what you are doing."

Back in 2017, the review suggested where we could make improvements and in this latest round of follow-up assessment, the peer challenge have noted "significant progress, made at pace" in areas such as ICT, housing strategy, the leisure review, and planning for the future of the District.

Cllr Barry Rickman, Leader, said, "As the review team commented, the enthusiasm and positivity from both my fellow Members and Officers is evident throughout our organization.  This attitude goes a long way to delivering on the aims that are important for our residents in the often challenging context of local government."

The review suggested that in order to build on their success, we should continue focusing on setting plans that will see a developing council, fit for the future.

Chief Executive, Bob Jackson, said, "I was particularly pleased that the peer team recognised that we have embarked on a significant change programme, empowering our staff to deliver better services for our communities. What we do is all about people, good people working together.  After all, we are only here to serve the people in our community."
