The Housing Strategy sets out the council's proposed approach to pro-actively addressing all types of housing need in the district for the five years from 2018 to 2023. It aims to ensure appropriate housing is accessible to the whole of the community, and will help shape housing policies within the emerging Local Plans for the district.

The Housing Strategy, and the Delivery Action Plan that accompanies it, acknowledge the shortage in the district of homes which are genuinely affordable and identify a range of ways in which the council will enhance the housing options available and the supply of affordable housing for the benefit of local people. It also aims to ensure the best use of homes owned by the council and address the challenges the council's housing service faces as a result of recent welfare reforms.

With the announcement from Theresa May with plans to 'start a rebirth of council housing' it is even more important for the Council to have a living working housing strategy that will build the foundations of future housing delivery in the District including the National Park.
