Housing Waiting List

Allocation scheme

In November 2012, we approved our Homesearch allocation scheme and tenancy strategy.

The updated Homesearch policy gives the council greater local control over who is eligible to appear on the housing waiting list. Key items include removing applicants who have no connection to the New Forest and removing those who are considered unsuitable to be a tenant due to anti-social behaviour.

The tenancy strategy sets out the council's approach to what type of tenancies are offered to housing applicants. New tenants will be offered a one-year introductory tenancy followed by a fixed-term tenancy (normally for a period of five years) rather than a lifetime tenancy, ensuring that the council can make best use of available housing stock by tackling under-occupation and by encouraging tenants to explore other housing options if they have the resources to do so.

Elderly and vulnerable people and existing tenants will retain their lifetime security of tenure.

In order to join the Homesearch waiting list you will need to print off an application form which can be found below and return it to the council.

Please note, if you do not have a local connection to the district you may not be eligible to join the waiting list. Information on local connection can be found in our Guide to Homesearch.

**We no longer send out application forms in the post, if you wish to apply to join the waiting list you will need to download the form using the link below or collect a copy from one of our local offices.**
