Community tidy ups

We can help community groups who want to spend a few hours litter picking together, whether it's a beach clean or a tidy up of your local neighbourhood, park or school.

Volunteer litter picker  We can provide:

  • litter grabbers
  • hi-vis vests
  • black sacks
  • collection of the rubbish after your litter pick

Unfortunately we can only support planned litter picks. We cannot provide litter grabbers or other equipment on long-term loan, nor can we support individuals who wish to litter pick on an ad-hoc basis.

Safety first:

The safety of volunteers always comes first.  Please be aware that litter pick organisers and volunteers are not working or acting on behalf of the council and are not covered by the Council's Public Liability insurance.

Any support from NFDC is given only on the strict condition that any litter picking activity takes place within the parameters of the Health and Safety Guidance, and that the guidance is adhered to by all those taking part throughout the duration of the litter pick.

It is the litter pick organisers responsibility to visit their chosen site and carry out a full risk assessment, and the litter pick organiser is responsible for briefing all volunteers on the Health and Safety Guidance before they start any litter picking activities.

Please ensure you have read and understood the Health and Safety Guidance below before requesting support from us.

To request support for a litter pick:

Email us at wasteandrecycling@nfdc.gov.uk and let us know the following details

  • Date, start and finish time of litter pick
  • Location/area of litter picking activity
  • Number of volunteers involved (please let us know if any children under 16 are taking part)
  • An address for us to drop off/pick up the equipment
  • Specified point for rubbish sacks to be collected after the litter pick

Please ensure you provide us with a minimum of two weeks notice of your litter pick, as we cannot guarantee support for your litter pick without sufficient notice.

We'll be in touch to confirm whether we can provide support for your litter pick. (Submitting a request does not automatically confirm we can support you) Any support is given entirely at the discretion of the Streetscene supervisor.

If you would like more information or have any queries please email wasteandrecycling@nfdc.gov.uk
