Supplementary Planning Documents

Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is the name given to additional planning policy guidance that is prepared to supplement policies in development plan documents.

Supplementary planning documents may cover a range of issues. Some deal with a specific topic or type of development, while others are site or area specific. They may take the form of design guides, area development briefs, master plan or issue-based documents. The guidance contained in these documents expands upon or provides further detail about policies in a development plan document.

Latest consultation

Comments were invited on the Ringwood Local Distinctiveness Supplementary Planning Document for a six week period starting on 7 January 2013. This consultation has now closed.

The following Supplementary Planning Documents have been adopted:

Design of waste management facilities in new development
Basic policy framework for achieving appropriate design and location of waste storage and collection facilities at domestic and other premises.

Housing design, density and character
Addresses the need to respect and strengthen local character with a high quality of design while seeking more efficient use of land.

Lymington Local Distinctiveness
Guidance aimed at ensuring future development takes place in a way that protects local character and maintains the positive features that contribute to the local distinctiveness of Lymington and Pennington.

New Milton Local Distinctiveness
Guidance aimed at ensuring future development takes place in a way that protects local character and maintains the positive features that contribute to the local distinctiveness of New Milton and Barton on Sea.

Ringwood Town Access Plan
Sets out how access to facilities and services within the town can be improved over the next 20 years, provides an Action Plan for investment, identifies measures already planned and longer term schemes for improvements which are necessary to accommodate future development. It will be used to help guide transport infrastructure development within Ringwood over the next 20 years.

Parking Standards
Outlines the recommended provision of cycle and vehicle parking for all new developments and identifies thresholds for travel plans and transport assessments. The parking standards aim to encourage efficient use of land by preventing over or under provision of parking, as both scenarios can have severe road safety implications or lead to serious environmental damage.
